We create beautiful and quality handmade hats for special occasions and everyday wear, winter and summer, for men and women.

At I am a Hat, our handmade hats are made using top quality natural straw and wool felt. Artist and London trained milliner, Karen Newborn, creates her unique hats on gas fired French millinery presses and antique wooden hat blocks. She works from a barn in beautiful Waimauku, 35 minutes North West of Auckland.

I am a Hat's 2017 winter collection includes the 100% wool felt fedora both wired and unwired for both men and women. We have also included wool felt Cloche hats with upturned brim, representing iconic New Zealand women in history such as Jean Batten, Katherine Mansfield and Rita Angus. The cloche flatters most faces and is based on our cloche sunhat; our biggest seller last summer along with our large floppy sun hat. These hats are stunning in felt!
